So I opened my instant messenger a few days ago, and finally decided to follow Prophet's little message to join Facebook.  So the adventure begins...

Go to facebook.com.  Start filling out registration... create email alias.  Complete registration.

[Hours later...] No activation email?  Fix alias on Google Apps to allow anybody to send email to the alias.  Re-send activation, click link.

"Oooh, I can import emails from my gmail account."  Use login form to retrieve email addresses, sort through thousands of people.

[An hour later...]  "Wow.  There's an 'unselect all' button... that would have been handy.  Already gone through most of them... oh, well."  Keep sifting.

[30 minutes later...]  "I think I just send a couple dozen friend requests... cool."   Start setting up profile.

[A few minutes later...]  "Hunh.  Prophet wants stuff in 'Mafia Wars'.  I wonder what that is."

[The next day...]  "Sweet.  Level 5 Associate.  Honey, you should join my mafia."

[Days later...]  "Woo!  I'm a Level 9 Soldier!  Oh, here's an energy pack for you, honey.  In Pirates, I am now Level 5!  Oh, and I've got a sweet McLaren F1 from Prophet in Street Racing..." 

[Another day later...]  "Wow, I just found this 3D quest thing in Dragon Wars..."  [... pause to think...]  "Holy crap.  I forgot my homework.  Did I go to work yesterday?"

Such a time sink.  I was warned of this before.  And just a week before finals.  Hopefully I've got a lot of will not power built up, as I'm probably going to need all of it.
